While those missions might depend on the cover of darkness, they said they'd already implement this, for which I am very grateful. I can't help but think of the incredibly beautiful skies in Morrowind.. It was a joy just to look up at the sky. I hope they put the same kind of effort into this.

Good job ANet on this.

Take Riverside Provence. You're supposed to be slinking around in the dark in an attempt to slip past the White Mantle (the mission was actually a bit darker in beta). In Borlis Pass, you're attempting to reach Grooble's Gulch before nightfall so that your fellow Ascalonian refugees don't freeze.

Day and night changes would break existing storyline elements. And quite frankly, I see no reason to add it other than "well this other game has it".
make it so you can only do those missions at that time of day. people on this game meet more when its a scheduled event.

I'm opposed to D/N. It serves no purpose, I'd rather have the developers of the game working on things that I can actually use and have fun with. Having the atmosphere changing from light to dark isn't really anything I can have fun with at all.

I liked Morrowwind's D/N-cycle (still do) and I think it would just make the PvE-environment a lot more realistic. And that would allow ANet to add some new spells for Eles... different kind of lights.
And imagine all those glowing weapons shining in the dark, imagine all those with collector's set doing the dance when it's dark

Unless it was an extremely small cycle (1hr/1hr) I think this would PO alot of the playerbase who would end up still only playing in one time of day. 2hrs a day is alot for many people during the week who would end up having to wait until weekends to do things if light-dependent elements were added to the game.

If there's different monsters, it'd be impossible to fight.

Korean dude: I'm attacking a Bog Skale!
American dude: What skale?
Korean dude: The one thats killing you...
American dude: What the... I just got killed by a Tengu, not some skale...
Korean: Look out behind you!
American: I only see you.

See what I mean?
And you are sure there wouldn't be anything like a universal timezone for International District? That example of yours was a bit hastily created, I think.
I think there should be like certain Tyrian time (like proposed 10 hr cycle)

And I think it would look most cool having a UW/FoW-weaponry glowing in almost total darkness... And then we could have some new spells for Eles, something to create light with (or then just use Firestorm ).
And then there could be somekind of new weapon mods that would create certain amount of light to its surroundings.

And wouldn't it look nice having those with Collector's Set to have their special glow show.

Sorry if I sound bit flaming, didn't mean to

I wouldn't like day/night in GW to cycle at the same rates as in real world because it would would create a lot of problems for many players. me for instance, I live in europe but play on US servers so I wouldn't really like to play in the dark all the time.

but all in all, the idea is very nice.

If

1. Day / Night cycles disabled at least in Chapter 1 missions and other events which require certain daytime.
2. No real-time cycles. Make it shorter. Maybe 12 hours for full cycle instead 24 hours or something.

that would be a HUGE patch they would have to work on, and i would prefer them to concentrate on chapter 2 and balancing and AI

Not really...simply implement a day/night system (24 GW hours=12 hours), that perhaps might have some effects on gameplay, but would not provide 'benefits'. As long as the cycle was proportionate to days on particular continents, this would be good. For example, the area around midday is night, while morning and evening are daytime, and late evening and early morning are night. I don't think it would be too hard to put in along with everything else, and just because you want the developers to concentrate on other things doesn't mean they can't concentrate on them while bringing things like this in as well.

Rain so strong that the damage done by fire magic is halved (but, naturally, water magic is boosted).
=P I think someone's post was slightly inspired by Final Fantasy.

Weather effects could screw farm bots pretty bad by having to waste money on tents and such =].

Also this would only be effective if based on a seperate virtual time which exists just in Tyria.

More depth to the pve experience is needed and day/night cycle would only add to that depth.

But it would feel wierd playing on American servers at night time while its really day time in Australia.

Could possibly be on a 48 hour cycle so that if always play at a certain time you could have a day time one day and a night time another day.

man to have d/n cycles isn't too hard to pull off, they had it in everquest, it was nice to see the dusk, dawn and nite, it had no effect on combat or anything, who cares where you live its just a game. I for one hope that they do empliment a d/n cycle

I've thought of this since those long months ago I started playing. I would be awsome. Incredable and give us an edge on WoW fans for bragging rights (atleast making a fair playing field).

However, from my computer science experience it would be a HUGE overhall. Timing day and night would not be that hard, and making new monsters come out too would be very easy.

New movement patterns for monsters and different behaivor would be a daunting task. Not only would you have to program that correctly, but you would have to screw with the whole code on how things act. Once you got it right, it would take months of testing to see if it really is correct. And one slip could leave the whole system for how NPCs act so bugged it could never work with the current system.

It would have to be in a new update (like chapter 2) to work well. Changing a system like this with out a new installment is risky at best, stupid at worse.

Computer Scientists go with a saying "If it works correctly, don't touch it." GW would be awsome with something like this and I hope it happens. But GW works without this too, so other than coolness there is no reason to do this. Best shot right now is Chapter 2 to have something like this come into the GW world.

This would be very interesting. However, if it's in real time, I'm not sure how well it would go since people get their own "individual copies" of combat zones. Perhaps there could be areas/npcs/enemies accessible only at a certain time (night or day)? That'd be interesting, too.

becose its instanced , everything should be random . after it starts there could be a cicle for night day , i would say 6 hours day 6 hours night or even 3 hours day 3 hours night , becose many people dont play for more then 3 hours , it would be nice to have that feeling in a short time of play , it doesnt have to be like real life , its a fantasy world. for rain and sun , storm , snow etc , also random .. being random means , dist 1 could be raining and dist 2 could be sunny. i think this would save server space. also possible in town day sunny then go out and its storm rain night.

maybe a fixed day/night cicle on towns , then instaced zones start their cicles from there.

and also , this could make computer hardware requirements go up , more memory needed at least.

anyway
